Supporting Human Rights….and Lefts with Hannah Eddy

Tell us about yourself!

My name is Hannah Eddy and I’m 33 years old. I grew up in Maine but moved out west for bigger mountains and I now live in Reno, NV with my husband Tim. I am a skate/surf/snowboard enthusiast and my love for them has pretty much dictated the direction of my life. When I’m not painting or drawing I’m almost always riding some sort of board or bike, it keeps me having fun, gets me out in nature, and that’s where I get my best ideas.

How did you first discover your love for art and board sports? What inspired you to marry the two? How do you hope your art makes the world a kinder place?

I’ve always been into drawing and painting, and I also got a skateboard and snowboard at a super young age so art and board sports pretty much shaped me together. I am always inspired to create art that gives a feeling of flow and fun. I’d like to think that encouraging people to get out and do the things they love will hopefully help bring more peace and kindness to the world…and if not, at least we had a good time trying!

How would you define kindness and what does being a kind human mean to you?

I would define kindness as putting yourself in other people’s shoes and acting accordingly. Being a kind being means that you can empathize and relate to other humans, and it is super important for me to live in a way that reflects that. I have a pretty strong guilty conscience so I definitely find myself going out of the way to make sure everything is all good, or I will regret it later, and that’s never a nice feeling. Prioritize nice feelings!

Can you tell us about the Human Rights…and lefts tee?

The “Support Human Rights…and lefts” design was a fun concept I had been playing with for a while. Obviously, with everything going on in our world right now I’ve been trying to create art that reflects a positive message and I try to encourage people to pass that on. I like a pun, especially if it has a good meaning. I’m regular footed so I love a good right-breaking wave, but you can’t leave out a nice backside, and some people prefer lefts…whatever floats your boat, it’s all about perspective! I’m pretty fed up with our divided world, we need to come together and realize we all deserve equal and fair treatment and we are all connected. The more of us who shout out that message (or wear it on a shirt) the more it will spread.

We teamed up with Hannah to create the 100% cotton tie-dyed tee with proceeds going to Changing Tides Foundation. Supporting human rights through positive messages of unity, equity and inclusion must be the focus to make the world a kinder place!

Any exciting plans, anything new coming for 2021?

2020 has been tricky to navigate for all of us. I feel super lucky to have been able to maintain a steady amount of client work through it. I’m really hoping for a safe and happy new year, but I know it will continue to be interesting. Personally, I am not trying to set super lofty of goals for 2021, but I do have some really fun projects on the list. I have some more murals planned that I really hope can still happen. Murals are something that I am getting more into, and absolutely loving! It’s such an amazing process to paint a large wall that is available for anyone to see. I can’t tell you how many people come up to me while I’m painting and thank me. It’s a really cool way to bring together a community and bring some color and positivity onto a wall that was otherwise unnoticed. The world needs more murals, and it’s rad to see towns and cities realizing that. We are all in this together, and we can all connect through art.
