Portals of Hope Women's Crop Tee, Tie Dye Pink

This Tee Supports Youth Mental Health

Why you’ll love it

Street art on a shirt! Get transported through the Portal of Hope’s rainbow of colors when the world feels a bit dark. These colorful, pink crystal tie-dyed boxy crop tops were created in collaboration with artist Cheryl Sorg, whose bright and inspirational pieces of street art are depicted in cities around the world.

You’ll be inspired by the artist’s unique and playful image—originally created with colorful tape—of a gateway that transports us to a place we all dream about; one that has transcended the plague of racism, misogyny, hate, poverty and more.

Contradict elements of tension and anxiety with the whimsy and escapism that only Cheryl can bring through her Portals of Hope. We’re pretty sure this tee will bring a smile to your face.

The hope doesn’t end there either—this tee gives back 30% of proceeds to The Youth Mental Health Project, whose mission is to educate, empower, and support families and communities to better understand and care for the mental health of our youth.

About Cheryl Sorg

Cheryl Sorg has created a unique approach in her art, working with tape as her main medium while focusing on injecting plenty of color in her work. An artist who battles with Bipolar II, oftentimes sending her into bouts of depression and anxiety, her artwork offers hope in a world that can come across as very dark, at times.

The colorful portal imagery represents an escapism to a better place when her mind goes dark. Racism, misogyny, hate against the LGBTQ+ community, poverty and more lead her to a place of anxiety, which is amplified by her mental health challenges.

She particularly enjoys the Portals of Hope street art project that injects color and joy in the world, acting as a counter to anything that may be troubling the lucky human who stumbles across them.

“My art practice, in a general sense, is an escape from my mind, and many of the things within my work—skies, rainbow, portals—have an element of whimsy and escapism that definitely stems from a need to counter the darkness, tension and negativity,” says Cheryl.

Cheryl has received a number of awards and honors, including a fellowship at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire (otherwise known as heaven), juror’s awards in numerous group exhibitions, a travel grant from the Massachusetts College of Art to create work in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and publication in the fall 2008 issue of Studio Visit Magazine, an ‘exhibition in print’ from the Open Studios Press (publishers of New American Paintings).

Cheryl was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1967. She moved to Encinitas from Boston in 2003 and since then met Xavier, her husband, and they have two beautiful children together.

About The Youth Mental Health Project

The Youth Mental Health Project is a grassroots nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate, empower, and support families and communities to better understand and care for the mental health of our youth. They do this through events and speakerships, providing educational materials, film screenings and a parent support network.

They envision a world made up of informed families and caring communities that realize and strengthen the mental health of our youth—a world where people are just as aware of their mental health as their physical health, where families are validated and able to readily access the care they need.
