Kind to Others: STOKED

STOKED is an acronym for: Success, Teamwork, Openness, Kudos, Energy, Determination. Through mentorship and action sports culture, STOKED empowers underserved youth to reach their fullest potential, instilling passion, resilience and determination.

Deeply rooted in each community they serve, STOKED works to close the opportunity gap and prepare underserved students for life after high school through mentoring, opportunity, and action.

Their middle school program, STOKED SKATE, includes skateboard instruction and project-based activities including STEM and SEL curriculum and multimedia art lessons related to action sports culture. Students learn parts of the skateboard, skateboard assembly, skate etiquette, and basic skate skills. In addition, students design and facilitate community service projects.

The high school program, STOKED BRAND BUILD, has students use Stanford’s Design Thinking Principles to work with their local community to create a social impact brand. With the support of industry professionals and coaches, a group of students works on interpersonal skills, public speaking, empathy, financial literacy, responsible decision making, interviewing, and design to create a brand that positively impacts their community.

STOKE’s end goal is to cultivate a community of kind, confident, resilient, ambitious youth ready to take on any challenge with a healthy level of optimism and fearlessness.

Kind to the Planet: Players for the Planet: Uniting Athletes for Global Change

Players for the Planet was founded by Major League Baseball player Chris Dickerson with the goal of uniting professional athletes to create positive change for our environment. As an organization, PFTP works to connect professional athletes, sports teams, and organizations with actionable opportunities to serve and protect our natural world and the environment. It is their ultimate goal to support the professional sports industry in becoming a leading example of ecologically conscious, environmentally responsible, and sustainable practices worldwide.

To date, more than 200 current and former professional athletes have joined Players for the Planet in working to create a better world, and that list continues to grow. They work to bring pro and youth athletes across the nation together to enact exciting environmental initiatives within their own communities, including beach cleanups, recycling events, plastic reduction, conservation efforts, eliminating single-use plastics in sports facilities, and more. Players for the Planet works to bring positive environmental change to the world of professional sports and beyond.

Our next Kindness Day is July 28! We’re excited to share a new challenge every month, meant to put kindness into action and introduce behaviors that are scientifically proven to improve mental, physical and spiritual health.

These challenges encourage kindness to yourself, others, and the planet, along with a participation date. Why? Because every kind action inspires a ripple effect of good.

If you participate, post it on your social accounts, tagging Kindhumans and using #KindnessDays in the caption so we can find you! Learn More here».
